Retro Glamour and Timeless Charm
Prepare to be transported to the golden age of Hollywood as you step through Melvyn’s doors. The decor exudes vintage charm, with opulent chandeliers, plush leather banquettes, and a classic black-and-white checkered floor that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Get your camera ready for some Insta-worthy snapshots!
When I walked in I felt like Grace Kelly or Sophia Loren in their splendor years having dinner with Frank Sinatra. I felt like I had time traveled to a golden era of elegance and comfort. It makes you feel romantic and sexy and you know the martinis will be stiff.
Crafty Cocktails and Liquid Euphoria
The magic of Melvyn’s doesn’t stop at the decor; their bar is equally enchanting. There is a long traditional bar where talented mixologists whip up an array of crafty cocktails that will elevate your dining experience to new heights. Don’t miss their signature cocktails, and if you’re feeling adventurous, ask the bartender to surprise you with their own creation! I highly recommend a little pre-dinner libation. When we were there they had live jazz music playing in the corner which only added to the already amazing ambience.
A Place Where History Comes Alive
Melvyn’s isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a living piece of Palm Springs history. Since opening its doors in the 1940s, it has been a hub of sophistication and elegance, hosting numerous iconic figures throughout the years. Dining at Melvyn’s is like stepping into the past, where the glamour of yesteryears still thrives.
The dining room is beautiful with chandeliers, long white table cloth and waiters in tuxedos.
They seated us in a horizontal booth, yes, seated next to each other reminiscent of a 1970’s bench pick up truck. Normally I prefer to sit across or next to but on an angle so that I don’t have to turn to see him, but I embraced the era and thoroughly enjoyed our table.
Celeb Spotting: Where Stars Come to Dine
Step into Melvyn’s, and you might just find yourself rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s A-listers! This timeless eatery has a long-standing history of being a favorite haunt of celebrities seeking privacy, elegance, and of course, mouthwatering meals. Who knows, you might end up sharing a table with your favorite movie star!
Even if there are no celebs to dawn the door, the people watching was entertaining on its own. Everyone walking in for dinner was dressed to impress. This is not commonly seen in Southern California. Not sure if it is the maturity and decadence of the place, but people show respect by dressing up. Luckily, I was wearing a new sleeveless, black dress I got from Boden. It is linen which is perfect for Palm Springs and has midriff cutouts which makes for a fun flirty outfit for a night out. Mr. Deets looked very dapper in his signature James Perse T-Shirt.
A Palatable Paradise for Foodies
When it comes to satisfying your taste buds, Melvyn’s Restaurant takes the cake (quite literally!). Their menu boasts an impressive array of dishes that cater to every palate, from classic American fare to tantalizing international flavors. Whether you’re a seafood aficionado, a vegetarian connoisseur, or a carnivorous king, Melvyn’s has something to satiate every craving.
Each dish at Melvyn’s is crafted with the utmost care and precision, creating a culinary symphony on your plate. From the perfectly seared steaks to the delicate soufflés, every bite is a harmonious blend of flavors that will leave you yearning for more. Your taste buds will be singing in joy!
The menu had the items I had expected. Things like Caesar salad, Steak, Catch of the Day, and Shrimp Cocktail. What I was not expecting (and had to order) was a Risotto with peas, lemon, and parmesan. It was delicious. We shared a steak. Mr. Deets enjoys a rare and I prefer mine cooked a bit longer, so they brought out a sizzling hot plate so that I could finish up my steak to my liking.
We are rarely a dessert type of couple, but as we watched the Banana Fosters being prepared and devoured at other tables, we just had to have our own. It was every bit as sweet and happy as we expected.
